Proficiency testing:
1. You must get the proficiency test form from the counseling department which is located on the first floor of the Morton College B building.
2. You must pay the business office $15.00 per test.
3. You must e-mail the instructor giving the test. You can e-mail either: Catherine Stukel at Stukel@yahoo.com or Edie Fabiyi at edie.fabiyi@morton.edu for an appointment.
4. We do not offer tests unless you have a scheduled appointment.
Proficiency testing is available in the Office Management Technology department. We offer tests in Keyboarding 1, 2, and Word 1, 2. Many students take a test not realizing that the test is designed according to how the individual class is structured.
Keyboarding 1: This proficiency test is a multiple choice test that will test the student on their knowledge of what finger is placed on what key while typing. There is no timing given. A pass/fail grade is given.
Keyboarding 2: The student must take a series of three tests. The first test is a multiple choice test involving the formatting of letters and memos, as well as, proofreaders’ marks. The second test is a series of formatting letters, both modified and block; and a memo. The third test is a timed test. A pass/fail grade is given.
Word I/II: Each proficiency test that is administered is a “hands-on” test. Each test will cover the topics that are taught specifically in each class. A pass/fail grade is given. Possible topics include: spell checking, saving, columns, section breaks, headers, footers, page breaks, footnotes, endnotes, etc. The possibilities are limited to the course expectations.
