January 24 and January 26:
- January 24: Chapter 2.
- January 26: Direct method of writing, chapter 3. Assigned: page 71, #60. Use the direct method of communication and
then clean up the grammar. Share with two classmates, re-write and share with your instructor before you leave for the day.
This assignment is due on Tuesday at the beginning of class and must be printed before the class; no printed allowed at the
start of class
.
January 31 and February 2:
- January 31: 16-20; 21-24; and 29-32 on page 89 and 90.
- February 2: Writing a direct method of communication memo (not email). Page 125-126, assignment 5.6
February 7:
- February 7: Turned in assignments. Gave an assignment: Write a memo to the teacher, that informs her about the direct
method of communication. Keep in mind, that you must write the memo using the direct method of communication.
February 14 and 16:
- Thorough review of the direct method of communication; hands on work
- February 14: Re-worked some assignments - and will resubmit them on Thursday the 16th
- February 16: Assigned page 126, 5.10.
February 21 and February 23:
- Write 5 direct openings. Pick your own topic. You can make a list 1-5, and tell me who the direct opening is to, and
who its from
- Lecture covered how to given directions. Assigned 15 steps on how to carve a ham; with a list of items;and a precautionary
list, as well. Come to class with it to work on for Tuesday. It does not need to be complete.
March 1:
- 8.5 on page 212, indirect method of letter writing.
March 6 and March 8:
- 8.9, page 213 and 214.
March 13 and March 15:
- March 13: Please give directions from Morton college to your house. Use a map as a visual aid and highlight the directions
with a highlighter marker. DO NOT USE THE DIRECTIONS FROM MAPQUEST OR ANY SERVICE. These must be your own.
- March 15: Please answer page 329, question 9 - you only need to answer a few ways -- NOT 9 ways.... We had a lecture
on chapter 11.
March 20:
- Talked about conflict management. Students to use indeed.com, and pull 5 future jobs, and print them. On a piece of
paper - please list the soft skills that are on each job ad.
April 10:
- In class today we learned about delivering extremely bad news to our employee. Our employee(Sean Smith), took a promotion
6 months ago, makes $125k per year. Sean is running a project that will help the company earn a substantial amount of money.
But the project will take 48 hours longer than he and the employer anticipated - which will result in him having to delay
a $20,000 vacation that he has planned with his family for 6 months.
- Your job? Is to write a Memo from Ted Jones, the boss, to Sean Smith. Informing him that he can not go on his scheduled
family vacation.
- Pay attention to the pages 165-168 in your textbook.
April 17:
- Prepare a presentation that describes a situation that changed you or impacted your life. Be prepared to discuss why,
how, where, when.
